The National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., is hosting an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the pending sale of ancestral remains and tribal property in France.

The sale is scheduled for May 30 at the EVE auction house in Paris. The catalog includes over 200 items that were taken from ancestral tribal sites in Arizona, New Mexico and other states.

"Top officials will describe the damage inflicted upon the American Indian Nations by this and previous auctions, and will detail initiatives and legislation underway to stop them," the NMAI said in a media advisory.

The EVE auction house has repeatedly sold tribal property over tribal objections and has claimed all of its items were acquired legally.
