Senate Committee on Indian Affairs schedules business meeting

The ever-busy Senate Committee on Indian Affairs is holding a business meeting this week.

The committee will consider three bills at the meeting on Wednesday. They are:
S.2953, the Indian Health Service Accountability Act. The bill makes a number of reforms at the Indian Health Service. The committee has held a series of hearings on the "substandard" care at the IHS this year, including a field hearing on S.2953 in South Dakota on June 17.
S.3234, the Indian Community Economic Enhancement Act. The bill amends the Native American Business Development, Trade Promotion, and Tourism Act of 2000, the Buy Indian Act, the Indian Trader Act, and the Native American Programs Act of 1974 to provide industry and economic development opportunities to Indian Country. The committee took testimony on the bill on September 6.
S.3261, the Native American Business Incubators Program Act. The bill establishes a $5 million competitive grant initiative within the Department of the Interior to establish or maintain business incubators in Indian Country. A hearing took place on September 6.

The business meeting takes place at 2pm Eastern in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. It will be webcast.
