The Morongo Band of Mission Indians is hosting its 26th annual Thunder & Lightning Powwow in California this weekend. The event kicks off Friday afternoon with a market and bird singing at 4pm Pacific, to be followed by grand entry is at 8pm. Festivities continue through Sunday at the Morongo Casino Resort. "There are no 'spectators' at a Powwow. All who attend are regarded as participants. Each of Us has a place in the circle of people," the tribe says on the powwow website. "Within this circle there is no beginning and no end. This coming together is at the heart of the traditional Powwow." Rocker Micki Free is also performing on Friday at the casino.
