Native Youth Commission
"A commission would identify the complex challenges facing Native American children across the country and recommend improvements to programs serving that population under legislation approved by Congress and sent to the president. ... Challenges facing Native youth abound, especially for those living on reservations, where federal experts say some children experience post-traumatic stress disorder comparable to that of military veterans returning from war zones. ... 'They are the ones that we should be listening to the most,' said Erik Stegman, executive director of the Center for Native American Youth at the Aspen Institute." Regina Garcia Cano. Our Tiyoshpaye (extended family) has four new little ones that i am aware of; and I was recently in the company of two of them (Misty Dawn and Julianna). Although they do not Woglakah (speak) yet, I am thankful to them for bringing hope to an old man like me.

In closing, I would like to leave you with a lakh'ota word (Oie) for this week (Oko): Ah'iyunka = meaning Frost. (The apostrophe mark ' to the right of the h indicates a guttural sound).

Oko ichinunpa ki ahke wounglakin ktelo (We will talk again next week).
