The American Bar Association is honoring Thomas W. Fredericks for his efforts to promote diversity in the legal profession.

Fredericks is a citizen of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation. He has practiced law for nearly 45 years, working on tribal issues for the federal government and at his own firm.

"I can say unequivocally that Tom’s work benefited the entire Indian community and, in no small measure, has brought justice and fairness to all Native people," a letter of support read, according to his firm Fredericks Peebles & Morgan.

Fredericks will receive the Spirit of Excellence Award during the ABA's midyear meeting in February. He is one of four honorees this year.
