Rep. Markwayne Mullin: The #GreenNewDeal is bad for America

The Green Pipe Dream

The so-called Green New Deal is here and its policy is the definition of socialism.

In the resolution, Washington Democrats rolled out more of the same radical, socialist policies they have been pushing since day 1 of the 116th Congress. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leads the charge on this humorously unrealistic plan that demands net-zero carbon emissions in the next 10 years.

The key parts of the plan are worth laying out because they are completely far-fetched and unreasonable. The news may not be reporting on the dangers of this deal, but it is important that Oklahomans see the progressive, liberal agenda Washington Democrats are pursuing.

In the next 10 years, the Green New Deal aims to:

• Upgrade or replace every single building in the United States for state-of-the-art energy efficiency
• Eliminate air travel by replacing it with high-speed rail
• Remove greenhouse gas emissions from farming
• “Plant lots of trees”
• Put charging stations “everywhere”
• Provide “training, and high-quality education, including higher education” to all
• Guarantee “a job with a family sustaining wage, adequate family and medical leave, paid vacations, and retirement security” for all
• Provide handouts for those “unwilling to work”

Should we build a new White House, Supreme Court, and U.S. Capitol? Get rid of cattle as they produce methane—a greenhouse gas? Eliminate water vapor, the most abundant greenhouse gas, despite it being harmless? Force every American to drive an electric vehicle?

Send all of our manufacturing jobs overseas to countries like China, who do not care about their carbon emissions? Provide higher education to individuals who don’t want it—or don’t plan to use it to positively contribute to our society?

Of course not.

Meanwhile, in California, the Democrat Governor called a high-speed train from San Francisco to Los Angeles “unrealistic,” saying the plan “would cost too much and, respectfully, take too long.” Senator Mazie Hirono, a Democrat from Hawaii responded, “That would be pretty hard for Hawaii,” when asked recently about the implications of cutting down on air travel as a part of the Green New Deal. Even members of her own party are speaking out about the ridiculous proposals in Ocasio-Cortez’s plan to save the world.

Democrats’ response on how the U.S. ought to pay for it is as priceless as the idea to get rid of cows because they fart: “The question isn't how we'll pay for it, but what we will do with our new shared prosperity.”

In reality, the Green New Deal’s is set to cost taxpayers trillions of dollars. Initial estimates range from $3 trillion to $50 trillion. Turns out, their socialist plan that promises a lot of ‘free’ things is actually pretty pricey.
