The U.S. House of Representatives considers H.R.892, the Agua Caliente Land Exchange Fee to Trust Confirmation Act, on December 1, 2021.

The bill places about 2,560 acres into trust for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The lands, currently managed by the Bureau of Land Management, are of cultural and historical importance to the tribe, located in southern California.

“The tribe has been involved in land transfers with the federal government to consolidate their traditional lands and reclaim certain culturally significant areas throughout the years,” said Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-New Mexico), the House Subcommittee on Indigenous Peoples of the United States.
