Fixing Passamaquoddy’s drinking water problem
Some residents of the Passamaquoddy Pleasant Point Reservation have either hauled water or used bottled water for years, even decades.
The tribe’s water source is a lake that members say is unsafe despite tests show that it is largely within federal limits.
Tribal leaders say a long-term solution requires a change to a 1980 law that limits the tribe’s ability to acquire land where the tribe could establish wells.
