Zuni Pueblo waits on mine

Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico plans to take the Department of Interior to court if approval to a mine near a sacred lake is granted.

A decision will be made soon, a spokesperson told The Santa Fe New Mexican. The tribe has asked the department to develop a new environmental impact statement, citing concerns that the coal operation will draw water away from Zuni Salt Lake.

The lake is considered sacred by area tribes.
