Indians, law enforcement won't be on R.I. panel

An independent commission looking into the July 14 raid of the Narragansett Reservation doesn't include Indian or law enforcement representation because Gov. Donald Carcieri wanted it to be "neutral," a spokesperson said. But Chief sachem Matthew Thomas and others say someone with experience in Indian and federal issues should be included. In a July 23 letter Thomas asked Attorney General John Ashcroft to investigate.
