'Walking for Justice in Omaha': Memorial Walk for Zachary Bear Heels
Posted: Saturday, June 6, 2020

Nearly 200 people walked almost 50 city blocks in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 5, 2020, to commemorate the life of Zachary Bear Heels, a 29-year-old Lakota and Kiowa man who died at the hands of police officers three years ago to the day.

Those who attended the Zachary Bear Heels Memorial Walk and Vigil heard speeches, listened to Native drumming and prayed for Zachary, who was shocked 12 times with a Taser, punched in the face 13 times and endured the full weight of two nearly 300-pound officers on his back before succumbing to his injuries.
