The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus testing data, showing results as of 7pm on April 3, 2020.

According to the data, a total of 6,584 within the IHS system have been tested for the coronavirus. Of those, 381 have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. That’s a large increase from the 303 cases previously reported.

Of particular note is a dramatic increase in positive cases from the Albuquerque Area of the IHS. The region went from 19 positives in the prior data to 48 in the latest results.

The rise in the Albuquerque Area comes after Sandoval County in New Mexico reported 26 new COVID-19 positive cases on April 3. The county is home to several tribes served by the IHS region.

Overall, the Albuquerque Area serves 20 Pueblos in New Mexico and Texas, two Apache tribes in New Mexico, three chapters of the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, and two Ute tribes in Colorado.

The Navajo Area also continues to see a large number of COVID-19 cases. According to the IHS, 204 people from the area have tested positive.

The Navajo Nation — using more recent data — has reported 270 positive results.
