Following an inquiry placed on April 10, 2020, the Department of the Interior released the following statement about the $8 billion coronavirus relief fund promised to tribes:

“The Department of the Treasury is the lead federal agency and they are required to consult with the Department of the Interior and Tribes. DOI will follow the law and provisions prescribed and passed by Congress and mandated to the Administration. The definition of Indian Tribe, as referenced in Cares Act, can be found at 25 USC 5304(e).”
