AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Health Services reported two (2) new positive cases of COVID-19 — making 16 total active cases in Akwesasne’s southern portion. We are pleased that six (6) cases have resolved and two (2) community members have been released from hospitalization. There remains 16 family members and friends in quarantine at home and following guidance from public health. We wish them a safe recovery.

Contact tracing is still being conducted to help prevent any further community spread. If you suspect exposure to a positive case and awaiting notification from public health, please self-quarantine and get tested no sooner than seven (7) days following the event. Self-monitor for early symptoms that include diarrhea, fever, cough, tiredness, or loss of taste or smell. If any of these symptoms develop, please contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

The EOC and Health Services are urging individuals to please treat everyone as if they are positive. Please wear a mask in all public places, practice social distancing, wash your hands often, stay home if you are sick, and please choose to get vaccinated. We must remain vigilant in our efforts to protect vulnerable segments of our community who cannot receive the vaccine due to age or medical condition.
