The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus testing data, reflecting results as of 7pm on April 2, 2020.

According to the data, 5,364 people within the IHS system have been tested for the coronavirus. Of those, 303 have tested positive for COVID-19, representing a significant increase from the 268 cases previously reported.

Another 3,530 people have been tested, according to the IHS. Results from 1,531 tests are pending.

With more testing taking place, and more results rolling in, some regions  of the IHS are seeing spikes. One of the biggest occurred in the Albuquerque Area, where 19 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported, a huge jump from the 4 previously reported.

The Bemidji Area reported its first slew of cases — there are 5 in the region, according to the results.

The data, however, is incomplete. The Navajo Area has yet to be updated by the IHS, whose results are showing the same as those seen on April 1.

Using more recent data, the Navajo Nation reported 241 COVID-19 cases on April 2. Even more results are expected on the evening of April 3.

The IHS data is also showing some discrepancies. The Billings Area now has 9 positives, which is lower than the 11 previously reported. The adjustment occurred even though more tests were administered and the number of negatives was lower (203) than previously reported (206).

“Data is reported from IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization facilities, though reporting by tribal and urban programs is voluntary,” the agency notes on its website. “This is a rapidly evolving situation and the IHS will provide updated information as it becomes available and is verified.”
