The Alaska Native Village Corporation Association (ANVCA) and the ANCSA Regional Association (ARA) issued the following statement on April 27, 2020, in connection with litigation over the $8 billion coronavirus relief fund promised to tribal governments.

“We are disappointed in this decision. We still believe our position will find success in the court system, as the law is clear,” the ANVCA and the ARA said. “This will mean a delay in necessary resources and economic assistance for Alaska Native people in our communities and our state. However, Alaska Native people have a history of resilience and strength. Together we will prevent the spread of COVID-19, care for those who are sick, and repair our economies.“

“We look forward to a ruling that will allow us to receive additional, much needed aid for our people and communities,” the statement continued.

“We want to thank the Alaska Congressional Delegation, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy, the Department of the Interior, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Department of the Treasury for their support of our Alaska Native people and communities,” the organizations said.

The Alaska Native Village Corporation Association represents the 200-plus Native village corporations. The ANCSA Regional Association represents the 13 Native regional corporations.
