Indianz.Com Endorsement!!!

Ann Copland, Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi) In this election year, Indian Country is dying to know one thing: just who is Indianz.Com supporting for president? Well, In The Hoop isn't telling you but we are still very pleased to report that we have been endorsed by a key Republican Congressional staffer!

And it couldn't have come at a better time. With Indian budgets being slashed and the Indian Health Care Improvement Act still being held up, knowing that we have support on Capitol Hill is an honor that even eagle feathers can't provide.

So who is our biggest champion, our biggest advocate? It's Ann M. Copland, a senior executive and legislative assistant for Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi), who everyone knows is a HUGE supporter of Indian issues. If you need an Indian bill passed, well, Cochran is your guy!

Anyway, Copland has been giving us much love recently. Just witness the following testimonial she sent to more than a dozen fellow Congressional staffers last month, informing them of her favorite website:
Indianz.com <http://indianz.com/> is viewed as sensational tabloid journalism. They don't dig for facts and sometimes don't recognoze them when dropped in their laps.

Can't you just feel the honor? This is way better than Indian mascots!

And we didn't even have to ask for Copland to "recognoze" our greatness. All we had to do was publish Suzan Shown Harjo's January 15 opinion piece about Rick West and the National Museum of the American Indian.

A Smithsonian official, who shall go unnamed, helpfully sent the link to that story to Copland and other Hill staffers, noting that Harjo "makes some interesting points, though not without raising some sensitive issues."

Copland, of course, saw through the muck and made the kind of keen legislative analysis that only a $65,916.64 taxpayer-funded salary can provide. So we salute you Ann! Indian Country is truly a better place with you in our corner.

Oh, and we will see you at the National American Indian Housing Council's annual legislative conference on February 26. Aho!
