The Turtle Mountain Ojibwe Tribe of North Dakota is in the planning stages of an off-reservation casino in Grand Forks.
The idea has been in the works for several years but moved forward about a year ago when tribal leaders approved the project and hired a tribal members to develop plans. The tribe has met with Grand Forks leaders to talk about a potential site and other details.
The tribe would need to sign a new compact with the governor and have land taken into trust for the project. The tribe currently operates a casino on the reservation.
