The Navajo Nation Council voted 47-12 on Wednesday to approve a revenue sharing agreement for a potential casino in Hogback, New Mexico.
The calls for the Navajo Nation and the Hogback Chapter to share in casino profits.
But first, the casino has to be approved by the tribe, the chapter has to find an investor and the tribe has to negotiate a compact with the state.
Gambling is outlawed on the reservation but one community in New Mexico has legalized it and has a compact to open a casino. Other Navajo communities are also hoping to enter the industry.
