State official praises gaming tribes at NCAI midyear

Gaming tribes in Wisconsin have created tens of thousands of jobs and have contributed to the state economy, a top official said at the National Congress of American Indians midyear session on Monday.

"Wisconsin tribes and their businesses are responsible for about 30,000 jobs across the state," Administration Secretary Marc Marotta said, The Appleton Post-Crescent reported. "If you take the indirect effect, the vendors that are tied to those businesses, the impact is even more than that."

Marotta spoke on the opening day of the NCAI conference, which is being held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, next to the Oneida Nation.
