The Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians in northern California filed a land-into-trust application to beat a deadline imposed in pending Senate legislation.

The tribe wants 277 acres taken in trust. Tribal leaders haven't decided what to do with the land, but in order to preserve their rights if the legislation passes, they had to state their intent to engage in gaming.

The bill, S.2078, would bar such off-reservation gaming proposals beyond April 15. The tribe submitted its application on April 14.

The tribe already has a reservation where it operates a casino. The 277 acres could be used for a variety of purposes, including gaming.
