Scotts Valley Band hopes for casino approval this year

A public rally hasn't convinced the Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians of California to change locations for a casino.

The tribe is sticking to a site about 100 miles from its headquarters."We continue to be extremely optimistic that our project will be approved this year and that the land in North Richmond will be taken into trust by the federal government for the purposes of our tribe's economic independence," Chairman Donald Arnold told The Lake County Record Bee.

Former chairman Les Miller says the tribe should drop the plan and open a casino in the shuttered Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa. He says the tribe lacks ancestral ties to the Richmond area.
