Guidiville Band casino to go before voters in advisory referendum

Voters in Richmond, California, will get to to voice their opinion on the casino being proposed by the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians.

The November vote will be non-binding. City council members said it was important to hear from the public even though they will be the ones making the final decision on an agreement with the tribe.

"People should have the opportunity to express themselves," said council member Nat Bates, The Contra Costa Times reported.

The tribe plans the $1.2 billion Point Molate Resort at the Point Molate Naval Fuel Depot. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has released a draft environmental impact statement and environmental impact report on the project.
