Bay Mills chairman says Little Traverse gaming in trouble

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians is in financial trouble, the leader of another Michigan tribe said.

The Little Traverse Bay Bands just lowered the legal gambling age from 21 to 19 and recently completed a restructuring of its casino finances. All of that points to "bad business," according to Jeff Parker, the chairman of the Bay Mills Indian Community.

"Lowering the gambling age is just another move by LTBB to increase revenue and proof that their financial struggles are an ongoing problem," Mills told The Soo Evening News.

Parker said Little Traverse wrongly claimed his tribe's off-reservation casino posed a financial threat in a lawsuit in federal court. A judge ordered the facility to close.
