Opinion: Don't bet on Menominee off-reservation casino plan

"By the time Kenosha gets a casino, if it ever happens, casinos might be so commonplace they aren’t worth much.

Illinois has plans for five more casinos plus slot machines at horse-racing tracks and at Chicago’s airports. There is a new casino in Des Plaines, Ill., about 50 miles from Kenosha. If the other plans are approved by the Illinois governor, there may be a casino in Park City, Ill., about 20 miles from downtown Kenosha. It’s about 40 miles from downtown Kenosha to the Potawatomi Bingo Casino in Milwaukee.

How many casinos can succeed in the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor?

There are a lot of ways to tell if there are too many. If one opens and fails to create any excitement, that would be a sign that the market is saturated. If a proposed casino fails to attract enough investors, that would be another good sign that the market is saturated."
