Another tribe pleased with rejection of off-reservation casino

Another tribe is happy with the Obama administration's rejection of an off-reservation casino for Jemez Pueblo.

Jemez Pueblo wants to build a casino in southern New Mexico. That's Apache territory, according to the Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma.

"Our ties to Southern New Mexico run deep and the very idea that a tribe from hundreds of miles away might buy land in our back yard, put it into trust status, and then put up a casino was shocking to us," Fort Sill Chairman Jeff Houser said in a press release.

The Fort Sill Apache Tribe owns land in the area and attempted to use it for gaming before being shut down by the federal government.
