Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians received slightly more than $7,000 from the tribe's gaming operation, The Smoky Mountain News reports.

The tribe makes per capita payments twice a year. The June payment was $3,785, The Cherokee One Feather reported in June.

The tribe uses half of profits from the Harrah's Cherokee Casino for per capita payments. The other half goes to tribal operations.
