A bill was introduce to ratify a Class III gaming compact between the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians and the state of California.

The tribe received federal and state approval to open an off-reservation casino. The 350-acre gaming site has been placed in trust by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Ratification of the compact at the state level would put the tribe closer to its goal. The BIA will also be required to review the agreement.

Litigation from rival tribes and casino opponents, however, could delay the process.
