The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma spent more than $6.8 million on an Internet gaming site, The Native American Times reports.

The tribe described Poker Tribes as a free social networking site. But information uncovered by the Times indicates the tribe planned to collect fees and make payouts at some point.

The tribe worked with the Universal Entertainment Group on the site, the Times reported. The firm was paid more than $6.8 million between April 2012 and January 2013 even as the tribe was involved in a leadership dispute that nearly resulted in the freezing of $6.4 million in its bank accounts.

The tribe agreed to shut down the site as part of an agreement with the state of Oklahoma.
