Stand Up for California is seeking a statewide referendum on a bill that ratified a Class III gaming compact for the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians.

The referendum calls for a vote on AB 277, which narrowly passed the California Legislature before being signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown (D) last week. The group says citizens should decide whether they want off-reservation gaming in the state.

The initiative [PDF] was submitted to the California Attorney General's Office. The group needs to collect 504,760 signatures within 90 days in order for it to appear on the 2014 ballot, The Sacramento Bee reported.
