MGM Resorts International has started preparatory work on a $925 million casino near Washington, D.C.

MGM won a license to build a casino at the National Harbor, a hotel, convention and entertainment complex in Maryland that is less than 10 miles from the U.S. Capitol. Construction could begin in July once local approval is finalized.

The project features a casino with 3,600 slot machines, a 300-room hotel, 140 gaming tables, a theater, several restaurants, a spa and retail shops. It's expected to open in July 2016.
