Kalispel Tribe breaks ground on $20 million expansion project at casino

The Kalispel Tribe broke ground on a $20 million expansion project at its casino in Washington and announced plans for even more development.

The Northern Quest Resort and Casino will grow by 40,000 square-feet to accommodate a new family friendly entertainment center, a new retail outlet and a larger food court. A recreational vehicle park with amenities like a pool and sports facilities is also going up next door.

But there's even more going on in Airway Heights. The tribe is adding a movie theater and dining complex, along with a multi-family apartment community with 216 units.

“It’s an exciting day for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and for our guests and team members,” Chairman Glen Nenema said at the groundbreaking, KREM reported. “Our vision has long included a focus on healthy and safe communities. Part of that mission includes providing quality family-friendly entertainment through our businesses. Today we’re one step closer to seeing that dream come true.”

The casino expansion is expected to be complete sometime in 2018, according to news reports. A groundbreaking on the apartment community is slated for this fall.

Northern Quest was one of the first off-reservation facilities approved under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. New competition is arriving as the Spokane Tribe prepares to open its own gaming facility about three miles away.
