County jail changes policies for Indian inmates


The jail in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, has new policies for the religious rights of Native Americans.

Indian inmates will be allowed to carry medicine bags and practice ceremonies burning sweetgrass and sage. Ceremonies will be held outdoors with a spiritual leader and jail guard present..
