Kiowa leaders denounce recall election as bogus

The leaders of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma say an election to recall them was "bogus."

Clifford McKenzie told The Daily Oklahoman he doesn't plan on stepping down until June, when his term ends. "It's really a joke. They have taken our constitution and misused it with all these elections," he told the paper.

McKenzie and vice chairman Hess Bointy were ousted nearly 4-1 in a vote held on Saturday. Opponents accuse the pair of mismanagement. They say Bointy took more than $400,000 in tribal funds but he says he withdrew the money from the bank to protect it from rivals.
