Obituary: Cypress, founder of Seminole museum

Billy Larry Cypress, the executive director of the Seminole Tribe of Florida's museum, died on Monday after a long illness. He was 61.

Cypress developed the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, which opened in 1997. He sought to educate tribal youth and others about Seminole culture.

Cypress, a former Bureau of Indian Affairs education specialist, sat on the board of directors for the new National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., which opens this September.
