House committee approves Osage membership bill

The House Resources Committee approved a bill to reaffirm the right of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma to define its own membership.

The tribe says it only has four members due to a 1906 law that limits membership to those who inherit an interest in the tribe's mineral estate.

Rep. Frank Lucas (R-Oklahoma) is sponsoring the bill. The Bureau of Indian Affairs supports it, according to The Daily Oklahoman.
