Oneida Nation sees opposition to liquor license bid

The Oneida Nation of New York is seeing some opposition to its request to serve liquor at the tribal casino.

A resident of a nearby town has collected signatures for a petition opposing the sale of liquor. Tammy Wilczak says alcohol-related accidents would increase.

Assemblyman David Townsend (R) says the tribe promised not to serve liquor when it opened the casino in 1993. He wants to force the tribe to negotiate a settlement to its land claim if the license is to be granted.

The state Liquor Authority. Authority is reviewing the tribe's application.
