Alaska Native corporations generate billions


Alaska Native corporations generated billions in revenue, payroll and shareholder dividends in 2002, according to an annual report.

The 43 regional and village corporations surveyed for the report generated revenues of at least $2.4 billion on assets of $2.7 billion. Regional corporations comprised most of the revenues -- $2.2 billion.

The corporations paid out $408 million in payroll, $45.6 million in shareholder dividends, $6.4 million to charitable organizations and $4 million in scholarships, according to the report. It was prepared by the Association of ANCSA Regional Corporation Presidents and CEOs.

In total, Alaska Native profit and non-profit corporations created 64,000 jobs and had a payroll of $2.8 billion in 2002, according to state figures.
