BIA asked to delay land-into-trust for Cowlitz Tribe

Officials in Clark County, Washington say they need more time to comment on the Cowlitz Tribe's plan to have 152 acres placed into trust.

The tribe, which gained federal recognition in 2000, is seeking land for an initial reservation. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is asking for public comments on the tribe's environmental assessment.

Clark County commissioners, however, say they want the tribe to submit more information and the BIA to keep the comment period open for another month. They say the tribe needs to give more details about a possible casino on the land.
