California sacred site bill slimmed down

A bill to protect sacred sites in California has been simplified in response to concerns that it would give tribes too much power.

The new version requires builders to consult with tribes in advance of projects. Last year, builders complained that tribes would be given veto authority over development.

SB18 was approved by the Assembly Local Government Committee by a 6-0 vote.
