Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe opens meatpacking plant


The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is hosting a grand opening of its new meatpacking business.

With a seal of approval from the Department of Agriculture, the tribe is slaughtering cattle and buffalo. The plant employs 27 people and grosses $180,000 a month.

The tribe hopes to expand with a cold-cut jerky plant.
