AP skims over inaccuracies in Ione Band stories

The Associated Press' latest article about alleged conflicts of interests of Bureau of Indian Affairs employees largely glosses over inaccuracies previously reported by the news service.

The AP previously reported that a top BIA official in California was involved a tribal election that resulted in her family members being added to the rolls of the Ione Band of Miwok Indians. An internal investigation found this wasn't the case, but the AP says it had relied on "BIA and tribal documents" to make the claim.

The earlier article were written by Don Thompson of the AP. Department of Interior Inspector General Earl E. Devaney refuted several claims made in those stories.

The latest article, which reports Devaney's findings, is authored by Brian Melley.
