National
Federal grant will finally bring electricity to tribe

The Santa Ysabel Tribe of California has been awarded a $400,000 grant to bring electricity to its isolated reservation.

Only 294 out of 625 tribal members live on the reservation. Lack of power and adequate running water make it difficult to make a home there.

The grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will make it easier for people to move back to the reservation, chairman Johnny M. Hernandez said.
