Senator Shelby leaked intelligence messages

Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Alabama) leaked classified intelligence messages to the press but will not be prosecuted, The Washington Post reports.

According to the paper, Shelby told at least one reporter that the National Security Agency intercepted messages on the eve of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The messages, which weren't translated until the following day, said "The match is about to begin" and "Tomorrow is zero hour."

The messages were subsequently reported by various news organizations. Shelby may have told more than one reporter, The Post said.

The Department of Justice started an investigation and concluded Shelby was the source of the leak. He denies knowingly leaking classified information.
