Navajo racer promotes diabetes prevention

Preventing more Native Americans from developing diabetes is one of the top priorities of Cory Witherill, a member of the Navajo Nation who raced in the Indy 500.

Witherill is taking his Team Diabetes across the country to encourage young Natives to maintain an active lifestyle. He says diet, exercise, teamwork and commitment are key to staying healthy.

Witherill was on the Tule River Reservation in California yesterday. He recently attended the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) mid-year meeting and plans to be at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) annual session in October.
