Mining company not worried about tribal-state lawsuit

A Canadian mining company says it isn't worried that the state of Washington has joined the Colville Tribes in a Superfund lawsuit.

Teck Cominco, based in British Columbia, operates a smelter plant near the U.S. border. The tribe and the state say the operation has polluted the Columbia River and Lake Roosevelt for decades.

But Teck Cominco wants to have the lawsuit thrown out of court, saying U.S. laws don't apply to a foreign company. The Environmental Protection Agency is trying to get the company clean up some of the mess.
