Mark Trahant: What happened to Pakistan? bin Laden?

"Pakistan was an early sponsor of the Taliban and many army and intelligence officers remain at least "ambivalent" about confronting extremists, according to the commission. Some of those same military officers have access to nuclear weaponry.

The future of Pakistan is being taught Islamic fundamentalism. The 9/11 commission said in Karachi alone 200,000 young people are enrolled in nearly 900 madrassahs.

And if religious schools are not enough, last year the North West Frontier Province -- and its Islamic-party government -- adopted Islam's sharia code -- including a Taliban-like morality ministry, complete with limits on television programs, access to cable television and posters that show women."
