County faults Nevada tribe over inmate procedures

An agreement between the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe of Nevada and the Churchill County Sheriff has been terminated over concerns that tribal police officers were not following procedures at the county jail.

Sheriff Richard Ingram said tribal officers failed to ensure that inmates receive a probable cause declaration or appearance before a judge within 48 hours. This happened at least four times, the sheriff said.

The tribe says it will try to work out the dispute. The nearest Bureau of Indian Affairs jail is on the Duck Valley Reservation.
