Tribes host fundraising events for favored candidates


The opening week of the National Museum of the American Indian saw tribes and tribal organizations host fundraisers for several candidates.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut hosted a $1,000-per-person fundraiser for Sen. Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota). Daschle is in a tight race against former Republican Congressman John Thune.

The National Indian Gaming Association hosted a fundraiser for Sen. Patty Murray (D-Washington). According to the Associated Press, she has received $68,000 in tribal contributions in the past two years.

So far this year, tribes have donated $4.86 million to various campaigns, according to the AP.
