Manitoba's smoking ban won't apply to First Nation

The Roseau River First Nation of Manitoba is taking advantage of its exemption from the province's new ban on smoking in public places.

The band is building a new casino it hopes will attract not just gamblers but smokers. Tribal leaders say it will provide jobs and economic opportunity on a reserve with 77 percent unemployment.

But area businesses are complaining. They say the First Nation should follow the same smoking ban, which goes into effect tomorrow.
